On March 24, 1955, the Warwick Watch Factory, established through a public-private partnership in Tianjin (now known as the Tianjin Watch Factory), embarked on the trial production of the first-ever domestically manufactured watch in China, bearing the "Five Star" brand. In 1957, the watch underwent a name change, becoming the "Five One."

This timepiece holds the distinction of being China's earliest self-produced mechanical watch and remains deeply ingrained in the collective memory of the nation's citizens. Its significance stems from Chairman Mao's directive to the Tianjin Watch Factory (a precursor to Seagull) to "manufacture more watches and lower their prices" to make them accessible to the general populace. As a result, the "Five One" watch became widely renowned and affordable to the common people. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it achieved nationwide fame. Notably, Seagull reintroduced this model in both 2011 and 2013, and it enjoyed significant popularity during these reissues.
